Lead Systems Engineer - £50,000-£60,000

Our clients based in Herford are recruiting for a Lead Systems Engineer. 

The Lead Systems Engineer reports to the Technical Director. The Lead Systems Engineer is responsible for managing and leading two junior systems engineers forming in total the Core Engineering Team. The Core Engineering Team is responsible for the following;

  1. Internal Developments – the introduction of new cameras / lenses / electronics / pan tilt platforms as desired by the business.
  2. Sales Order Driven Developments – on occasion Silent Sentinel will sell systems that are 80% based on core products but require tailoring in order to meet customer requirements. This tailoring may include new cameras / modules / integration as required.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Working with Sales and the Technical Director to understand the scope of the required development and converting this into the relevant task lists for the Electronic, Mechanical, Software disciplines.
  2. Prepare Project Plans inline with the relevant developments.
  3. Prepare System Diagrams, Wiring Diagrams and BOM’s as needed.
  4. Manage the high-level development reporting progress to the Technical Director.
  5. Developing and Prototyping new systems / integration / platforms and making them ‘Production Ready’.
  6. Overseeing the full lifecycle of projects from initial customer requirements to final test.
  7. This is a core engineering role therefore the candidate is expected to be hands on and part of the direct engineering efforts.
  8. Responsible for developing the two Junior Systems Engineers.


The candidate must be dynamic, driven and proven experience in delivering technical systems in tight timelines.


Qualifications / Experience / Knowledge 

  1. An Electronics / Electronics Engineering degree is desirable however alternative relative experience will be considered instead.
  2. At least 5 years relevant experience working directly within an R&D Team.
  3. Experience with TCP IP/ Serial Control (RS485, RS422 and RS232).
  4. Experience with both hand and power tools.
  5. Experience managing a small team will be beneficial.


Experience with Optics systems (SWIR, MWIR, LWIR etc) would be desirable.
